A stretch slipcover is one of the fastest ways to refresh a tired ottoman — but it only looks tailored if it fits. The good news: measuring a round ottoman takes about two minutes.
What you need
- A soft tape measure (or a piece of string and a ruler)
- Your ottoman, cleared of trays and throws
Step 1: Measure the diameter
Run the tape straight across the top of the ottoman, through the centre, from one outer edge to the other. This number is the diameter and it is the most important measurement.
If your ottoman has a rounded, puffy top, measure at the widest point of the sides instead of across the cushion.
Step 2: Check the height
Measure from the floor (or the top of the legs) to the top edge. Stretch covers are designed to pull under the base, so most standard ottomans between 35 and 50 cm (14–20") high fit comfortably.
Step 3: Match your size
- Small: 20–23" (51–58 cm) diameter
- Medium: 24–29" (61–74 cm) diameter
- Large: 30–41" (76–104 cm) diameter
If you land right between two sizes, choose the smaller one for a snug, wrinkle-free fit — the fabric stretches.
Tips for a tailored look
- Start by pulling the cover over the top, then work the elastic hem down evenly all the way around.
- Smooth the fabric from the centre outwards to remove wrinkles.
- Tuck any extra fabric under the base.
